On stage at The Atlantic Festival in D.C. on Wednesday, Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) defended Donald Trump‘s remarks at his rally last night about Christine Ford‘s testimony. And when the audience booed Graham, he snapped right back.
Graham said Trump’s remarks were factual but that he “didn’t particularly like” them. “You’re not helping,” said Graham.
“I’m the first person to say I want to hear from Dr. Ford. I thought she was handled respectfully,” said Graham. “I thought Kavanaugh was treated like crap.”
At that point there was booing from the audience, which reaction Graham was obviously expecting.
“Yeah well, boo yourself,” he said to the audience.
During that same on-stage interview, Graham said “his is what you get when you go through a trailer park with a $100 bill,” to audible gasps and indignation from the audience. The line is actually a reference to Democratic strategist James Carville, who used that line to trash Paula Jones in defense of Bill Clinton, whom she had accused of sexual harassment.
So the overall relationship between Senator Graham and the audience was, in other words, pretty rocky already.
