Following the Senate vote that approved a stopgap spending measure to avoid a government shutdown by stripping the defund Obamacare portion out of the House bill, President Obama addressed the press on the issue from the White House Press Briefing room on Friday.
He began by addressing the details of a phone call he had with the president of Iran which he said indicated might signal an opening to resolve that country’s rapid nuclearization diplomatically. Obama also stressed the breakthrough that came this week when the U.S. and Russia agreed to a United Nations Security Council resolution designed to address Syria’s chemical weapons use.
Obama then took on the Congressional GOP and challenged them in strong terms to not shut down the government. He insisted that he would not negotiate with Congressional Republicans over he debt ceiling.
