WATCH LIVE: President Trump Holds Joint Press Conference With Japanese PM Shinzo Abe

President Trump and Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe will hold a joint press conference today at the White House. The presser will begin at 2:00 p.m. ET.

The two leaders are holding a working lunch before the media event, in which they’re bound to discuss the upcoming G7 summit they will both attend in Canada. The international conference is likely to be a contentious subject because the U.S. government has been receiving a lot of blowback recently over Trump’s decision to place new tariffs on imported goods from several of America’s allies. This being the case, Trump and Abe will probably be asked about brewing trade disagreements and whether the U.S. will keep levying taxes on Japanese steel, aluminum, cars, and other goods.

Another subject that will certainly come up is the Singaporean denuclearization summit with North Korea. Since the rogue nation threatens Japan with roughly the same regularity of threatening America and South Korea, Abe has a vested interest in the upcoming negotiations. As such, Abe and Trump will probably speak about the bilateral importance of pushing for the complete denuclearization of Kim Jong Un‘s regime.
