President Trump is holding an event at the White House today to celebrate the half-year anniversary of the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act. The event is scheduled for 12:15 p.m. EDT.
Trump is likely to use this speech to tout the act for its impact on the Internal Revenue Code, its various tax cuts, and how it did away with the Affordable Care Act’s individual mandate. This could tie in with what Trump said yesterday in Wisconsin, where he promoted his administration’s economic policies during the opening of a new factory complex.
Given the timing of this speech, its possible Trump will also address the shooting that killed 5 people yesterday in the newsroom of the Capital Gazette. Trump and members of his administration expressed sympathy for the victims on Twitter, though the president’s critics have already started drawing connections between the shooting and his regular attacks on the free press. Indeed, Trump’s reelection campaign is still using the war against the “fake news media” as a selling point, and his advisors have deflected when asked about the president calling the press the “enemy of the people.”
