Besides poking fun at Donald Trump Jr. and hosting Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski for a multi-segment interview that featured Scarborough’s announcement that he was no longer a Republican, Stephen Colbert also welcomed on actor Andy Serkis, who was there to promote War for the Planet of the Apes.
While spending a decent amount of time in the interview discussing Serkis’ role in the latest Apes film, Colbert also wanted the actor to revisit perhaps his most famous role — Gollum/Smeagol in the Lord of the Rings series.
“I would love if I could hear either Smeagol or Gollum read these tweets by Donald Trump,” Colbert asked.
With the crowd cheering, Serkis complied, jumping on his chair in the familiar crouch of the LOTR character and reading the following tweet in Gollum’s voice:
The Fake News Media has never been so wrong or so dirty. Purposely incorrect stories and phony sources to meet their agenda of hate. Sad!

We also got a reading of perhaps Trump’s most infamous tweet, with Serkis adding a little extra to it:
“Despite the constant negative press, covfefe! Wait, what’s covfefe, Precious?”
“No one knows,” Colbert responded. “That’s the most beautiful thing.”
