Watch: MSNBC Panel Completely Loses It Over Trump Comparing Himself To Abraham Lincoln
There are some things for which there are no words, as was the case when Joy Reid read off Donald Trump‘s tweet comparing himself with deceased President Abraham Lincoln, to uncontrollable laughter from her panel.
On Saturday morning, Trump tweeted a premise that former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich has been flogging for a very long time:
.@newtgingrich just stated that there has been no president since Abraham Lincoln who has been treated worse or more unfairly by the media than your favorite President, me! At the same time there has been no president who has accomplished more in his first two years in office!
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) January 19, 2019
The tweet was an apparent reaction to the current controversy over a Buzzfeed article that was at least partially refuted by Special Counsel Robert Mueller‘s office.
On Saturday morning’s edition of MSNBC’s AM Joy show, Reid kicked off a panel discussion by reading Trump’s tweet to her guests, MSNBC intelligence analyst Malcolm Nance, Strange Days podcast host Fernand Amandi, MoveOn’s Karine Jean-Pierre, and The Root‘s Jason Johnson.
As Reid read Trump’s tweet, the panel struggled to stifle laughter, a struggle which ended with the group just letting go and laughing out loud. It’s unclear whether the comparison to Lincoln, the self-description of “your favorite president,” or the claim to have “accomplished more in his first two years in office” was the source of the laughter. Perhaps it was all three.
