Watch Rose McGowan’s Visceral Reaction to Harvey Weinstein’s Arrest: ‘We Got You’
Rose McGowan joined Megyn Kelly on Friday and offered a visceral reaction to the arrest of her sexual tormentor, Harvey Weinstein.
Weinstein surrendered himself to the New York Police Department earlier today, and is now facing charges for various criminal sex acts connected his alleged abuse of multiple women over the years. McGowan began her reaction by saying it was “surreal” but also “today is a good day” to see the disgraced film producer in handcuffs.
“I actually didn’t believe this day would come,” McGowan said. “This is a big strike into the heart of abuse of power, and it shows people worldwide…that this cannot and will not stand.”
As McGowan went through the details of Weinstein’s downfall with Kelly, she brought up the connotations surrounding the fact that it took dozens of accusers like herself to bring him down. McGowan said it was “a tragic thing” that it took so many claims before the accusations were believed and charges against Weinstein were finally filed.
“The system was created to protect men like him.” Kelly said at one point, and McGowan replied: “The system was created by men like him.”
The conversation moved on to whether the powerful men who were disgraced by the #MeToo movement will be ever be allowed to reenter public life and seek absolution. Kelly said it was “offensive” to the victims that people keep talking about how their tormentors’ lives have been ruined, and McGowan followed up by saying “they’re criminals. If they were poor men, they would go to jail.”
When asked if she had anything to say to Weinstein, McGowan had three words: “We got you.”
The conversation continued with McGowan talking about whether she’ll ever be mentally free from Weinstein’s abuse, and how the system must change so people like Weinstein are held accountable.
