WATCH: Sarah Sanders Confronted on Trump’s Whopper of a Lie About Backing Immigration Bill
Saturday afternoon, President Donald Trump made the comical claim that he did not push House Republicans to vote for an immigration bill from Rep. Bob Goodlatte (R-VA).
I never pushed the Republicans in the House to vote for the Immigration Bill, either GOODLATTE 1 or 2, because it could never have gotten enough Democrats as long as there is the 60 vote threshold. I released many prior to the vote knowing we need more Republicans to win in Nov.

Just three days earlier, the president gave his full, emphatic support to Goodlatte’s bill.
HOUSE REPUBLICANS SHOULD PASS THE STRONG BUT FAIR IMMIGRATION BILL, KNOWN AS GOODLATTE II, IN THEIR AFTERNOON VOTE TODAY, EVEN THOUGH THE DEMS WON’T LET IT PASS IN THE SENATE. PASSAGE WILL SHOW THAT WE WANT STRONG BORDERS & SECURITY WHILE THE DEMS WANT OPEN BORDERS = CRIME. WIN!

Monday, during the first White House briefing since those tweets, Politico‘s Matthew Nussbaum confronted press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders about Trump’s absurd claim.
“Why would the president lie about something like that?” Nussbaum said.
“He didn’t,” Sanders said, lying. She then promptly pivoted to bashing Democrats over the failure to get legislation passed.
