Watch Stephen Colbert’s Own Audition Tape For the El Chapo Biopic
During last night’s episode of The Late Show, Stephen Colbert examined how the drug lord known as ‘El Chapo‘ was tracked down by Mexican authorities all because he wanted someone to make a movie about himself.
“For months, the unpredictable El Chapo had been on the run hiding in the jungle,” Colbert quipped, “and to find him, it took yet another unpredictable man who looks like he’s been hiding in the jungle, Sean Penn!”
After pointing out how Penn’s interview for Rolling Stone almost seemed to “humanize” the drug lord, Colbert brought it back to the fact that somehow Penn was able to track El Chapo down where the authorities couldn’t, and that their arrest was due to how it was Penn’s safety measures that were trackable.
When it came to the subject of his biopic, Colbert guessed that El Chapo probably wanted his portrayal to be done with “Danny DeVito and a large black caterpillar.” Nonetheless, Colbert sill believed that Chapo’s movie could still happen, and he took it on himself to audition for the role of the man himself.
There’s so much that could be said about Colbert’s portrayal of El Chapo, but its better if you just watch above, via CBS.
