CBS has released more footage of their 60 Minutes interview with Steve Bannon, and the former White House chief strategist faced questions about how President Trump handled the aftermath of Charlottesville.
Charlie Rose asked Bannon about why Trump did not denounce Neo-Nazis and white supremacists “at first instinct” after the race-fueled nastiness of last month. Rose also seemed to refer to Trump’s “both sides” remarks by noting how the president apparently drew a moral equivalency between white supremacists and their counter-protesters.
Bannon said Trump was trying to make a point about the debate on Confederate monuments at the time, but the Breitbart chief continued to state that neo-Nazis, neo-Confederates and the KKK are “awful” people.
“There’s no room in American society for that,” Bannon said. “All Donald Trump was saying is where does it end?”

Bannon also turned his ire towards John Kelly and Gary Cohn by suggesting neither the Chief of Staff nor the economics adviser are not really on Trump’s side. Bannon was particularly angry with Cohn for the extent of his recent criticisms against the president (which caused Cohn to contemplate resignation at one point).
“If you’re going to break with him, resign,” said Bannon. “If you don’t like what he’s doing and you don’t agree with it, you have an obligation to resign.”
