It’s Energy Week!
And President Donald Trump is set to give remarks before the Department of Energy Thursday afternoon, at the “Unleashing American Energy” event at 3:15 PM
The administration has been pushing this week to focus its efforts on working towards “energy dominance,” which officials see as a move towards becoming the world’s energy superpower. Energy week has been somewhat overshadowed by other news, including the CBO’s scoring of the Senate health bill — much in the same way Infrastructure week was comically overshadowed by Trump’s inability to stay off Twitter, which he used to bash fired FBI director James Comey and London Mayor Sadiq Khan.
Trump’s speech comes a day after a simpler time, when Energy Secretary Rick Perry delighted the White House press corps with a jovial performance at the press room podium.
That upbeat narrative took a dour turn Thursday morning, and now the president is taking serious bipartisan flak for his tweets blasting MSNBC anchors Mika Brzezinski and Joe Scarborough, in which he claimed Brzezinski was bleeding from an alleged facelift at his Mar-a-Lago resort in December.
After his remarks at the Energy Department event, Trump and First Lady Melania Trump will host South Korean President Moon Jae-in, along with a Korean delegation, at the White House.
