WATCH: Trump Gives Vote of Confidence to Scott Pruitt, With Embattled EPA Chief Sitting Nearby

During a meeting with automakers at the White House, President Donald Trump expressed confidence in and support of EPA Administrator Scott Pruitt.

CNN Washington Correspondent Ryan Nobles took the opportunity in a quick pause in Trump’s remarks to ask whether Trump “still [has] confidence in Administrator Pruitt,”

Trump responded, “Yes, I do.”

Pruitt has been under massive scrutiny by Congress and the media for several morally questionable decisions and alleged misuses of taxpayer money during his time in the Trump administration, including taking a $100,000 trip to Morocco arranged by a lobbyist and giving substantial pay raises to a couple of his friends.

Trump’s backing may be a kiss of death, though. Other staffers in whom the White House has expressed confidence – such as former Secretary of State Rex Tillerson and former National Security Adviser H.R. McMaster – were subsequently shown the door.
