On last night’s airing of Late Night, host Seth Meyers was having none of President Donald Trump’s more presidential “tone.” The comedian hammered the Commander in Chief for what he called an address “heavy on empty promises and light on substance.”
Meyers criticized the media coverage as overly fawning and focusing on style more than substance, a failure he said they were repeatedly guilty of during the 2016 election cycle. “Let’s not get fooled again,” said Meyers. “We’ve been here with Trump before.”
Meyers also took a shot at the muted Democratic response to the address, delivered by former Kentucky Governor, Steve Beshear. Filmed in a Lexington diner, Meyers said the Democratic rebuttal looked more like it was “delivered by the survivors of a zombie apocalypse.”
It’s not the first time Meyers has made the president his punching bag. In the past he’s mocked Trump’s seeming unfamiliarity with Frederick Douglass, and the president’s continuing obsession with voter fraud.
