WH Whistleblower Speaks Out on Security Clearance Process: National Security Shouldn’t Be a Partisan Issue

Tricia Newbold, the White House security specialist who spoke to the House Oversight Committee about security clearance issues, spoke to NBC News’ Peter Alexander tonight about her concerns.

Newbold told the committee that 25 people in the White House had clearances granted over officials’ concerns.

“The protection of national security is not a Democratic issue or a Republican issue. It’s an American issue,” she told Alexander.

Jared Kushner responded to the prior reporting on Fox News last night and said, “I’ve been accused of all different types of things, and all those things have turned out to be false.”

Newbold fears losing her job, but she said, “It’s important we stand up to do the right thing, no matter what.”

She also alleges she was retaliated against for raising this issue. Per NBC News:

Tricia Newbold said her supervisor moved files to a shelf beyond her reach after she complained about the decision to grant security clearances over the objections of senior staffers.

“It was definitely humiliating,” said Newbold, a manager in the White House’s Personnel Security Office, who has a rare form of dwarfism. “… But it didn’t stop me from doing what was right.”
