‘What a Bummer’: Amy Schumer Talks Trainwreck Shooting with Stewart
Following a joint press conference on gun violence prevention with her cousin, Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-NY), comedian Amy Schumer appeared as one of Jon Stewart’s final guests on The Daily Show Monday night. And it did not take long for them to dive into deadly shooting that occurred at a Lafayette, Louisiana screening of her new film Trainwreck last month.
“What a bummer,” Schumer said on the tragic incident. “I was like, legit heartbroken to get that news.” As soon as she heard what had happened, Schumer said she wanted to do whatever she could to help prevent future mass shootings. As she said during yesterday morning’s event, “These are my first public comments on the issue of gun violence. But I promise you they will not be my last.”
The rest of Stewart’s interview with Schumer concerned more trivial matters, like her recent adventures in the Hamptons with Jennifer Lawrence. “You’re awesome,” Stewart told her at the end of the segment, perhaps revealing some level of regret that she declined to follow in his footsteps.
