Remember that funny human interest story from roughly three years ago, of the 15 year-old Florida teenager who couldn’t stop hiccuping? Well her name is Jennifer Mee, and her gastrointestinal issues merited her a ton of national media coverage, including at least three reports on the Today Show. Well the follow up story to Mee has both good news and bad news. The good news is that she stopped hiccuping! The bad news is she has been charged with first-degree murder.
NBC News and MSNBC reported the following details:
A teenager who attracted national media attention after she couldn’t stop hiccuping for five weeks has been charged with first-degree murder, NBC News reported Monday.
Jennifer Mee, 19, appeared on NBC’s TODAY several times in 2007.
She tried various cures without success, until the hiccups eventually stopped.
In a statement released late Sunday, police in St. Petersburg, Fla., said Mee had been arrested along with Laron Raiford, 20, and Lamont Newton, 22. All three have been charged with first-degree murder, police said.
Police said victim Shannon A. Griffin was found with “several gunshot wounds to his upper body.”
Investigators believe Griffin was the victim of an armed robbery.
Again, though its not included in the report above, Mee has stopped hiccuping. So at least there’s that. Watch the Today Show report on her charge of murder, followed by her break-out segment on the Today Show from 2007 below. Warning, she hiccups a lot. (H/T Gawker)
