‘Where’s Warren Beatty When You Need Him?’: Al Roker Nearly Awards Wrong Student On Air

This morning, Al Roker had his own Steve Harvey/Warren Beatty moment on NBC’s Today when there was a bit of a mix-up with an award. As part of his annual “Rokerthon,” Al was at the University of Oklahoma where students set a Guinness World Record for the largest human weather symbols. He was also on hand to award a student — whose name was to be chosen at random from a hat — with a $5,000 scholarship.

When Roker picked the name, he said “Kelsey Hawk,” and a student promptly came running down the field. But, standing with Roker, she soon realized she had misheard. Turns out, her name was Kelsey Hull.

“Where’s Warren Beatty when you need him?” joked Roker. The real Kelsey Hawk ultimately came forward and both girls were good sports about it. In the end they each got scholarships.
