Two White House officials who appeared on TV this morning had pretty negative thoughts on the White House Correspondents Dinner.
Mercedes Schlapp, White House senior communications adviser, appeared on Fox & Friends this morning, after her husband tweeted this last night:
My wife @mercedesschlapp and I walked out early from the wh correspondents dinner. Enough of elites mocking all of us
— Matt Schlapp (@mschlapp) April 29, 2018
Schlapp said Michelle Wolf‘s jokes were “so incredibly disrespectful” and “disgusting,” saying this is why President Trump skipped the dinner.
“A woman going after these very talented women I think was so incredibly offensive,” she continued.
Schlapp praised Huckabee Sanders and, when asked if the White House should stop sending people to the dinners, said, “When you invite a comedian who is going to be so offensive and insults one of your guests of honor right on stage… you just have to really ask yourself if it’s really even worth going to the event.”
Over on Fox News Sunday, National Security Adviser John Bolton briefly brought it up as well.
He said he was “happy not to attend” it, singling out “reprehensible behavior by somebody addressing the gathering.”
Chris Wallace added, “I have to say I’m glad I didn’t attend either.”
