White House Press Secretary Jay Carney responded to reporters’ questions about how President Obama intends to follow-up on the call to action he expressed in his Sunday night remarks in Newtown, Conn. Asked about gun control legislation, Carney offered no specifics.
“It’s a complex problem that will require a complex solution,” Carney said. “No single piece of legislation, no single action will fully address this problem.”
Gun control “is part of it, but it’s far from all of it,” he added. He went on to echo the president’s sentiment, saying “we as a nation have not done enough clearly to fulfill our number one obligation, which is to protect our children.”
“[The school shooting in Newtown] has clearly shocked the entire nation, and has laid bare the necessity of evaluating the various things we can and must do as a nation to better protect our children,” Carney said.
