With the new cast of The View have come the expected rumors about backstage fights, especially between the often-combative Rosie O’Donnell and the show’s token Republican, Nicolle Wallace. But when Whoopi Goldberg sat down with David Letterman last night, she insisted that there’s absolutely no truth to it.
“You get four chicks, and people expect you to fight,” Goldberg said. “Women don’t just do that. But nobody ever asks that of the guys.” She said the men on ESPN very well might be sniping at each other — as a couple of them did just yesterday — but nobody asks them about it.
“We’re hip grown-ups. And we’re good-looking women,” Goldberg continued, but that doesn’t mean they fight with each other off-camera.
“In this country, we’ve forgotten, at least most people have, that when I was a kid, at least, you knew people that weren’t thinking exactly like you, and it didn’t mean that you couldn’t be friends,” she said. “And for some reason, we have this thing where you can’t be friends with someone you disagree with. It’s ridiculous! And I can’t understand why people keep that myth going, but they do.”
