Whoopi Goldberg: Trump Supporters Don’t Care if He Lies, They ‘Don’t Want the Truth’

Whoopi Goldberg has determined that Donald Trump‘s supporters don’t care about the truth because they’re prepared to double down and defend the president even when facts prove he’s wrong.

The View was holding a discussion today about how many people around the country want to get to the bottom of the political controversies surrounding Trump, James Comey, and the Russia investigations. Jedediah Bila insisted Trump supporters want the truth like everyone else, though Goldberg was a lot more skeptical, and she pointed to the president’s dust-up with London mayor Sadiq Khan months ago.

“I don’t believe that because even in the face of fact, when you know what happened, and you still double down on the lie…” Goldberg began. “When you see when he says the mayor of London said this, and what he actually said is there, and was there before the man tweeted, and you stick by what the man said, to me, you don’t want the truth.”

The panel continued to address Trump’s various connections to Russia, and Goldberg brought up his base’s tendency to denounce the entire subject as “fake news.” Joy Behar eventually jumped in by agreeing that the president’s supporters don’t care about his lies because the only thing that matters is that they think Trump’s voice breaks through the political establishment for them.

Recent polling indicates that less than 25 percent of the country trusts all of what they hear from the Trump White House.
