Why No, Joni Ernst Doesn’t Think Skipping Ed Board Meetings Is ‘Disqualifying’
Republican Iowa senatorial candidate skipped out on three editorial board meetings last week, rankling the Des Moines Register in particular. She told Fox News’ Bill Hemmer Thursday morning that she didn’t see the point.
“They made it very clear in a number of editorials that they would not be supporting my candidacy,” Ernst said. “It’s better to be on the road visiting with Iowans than sitting in front of a board that was not going to endorse me.”
Hemmer pointed out that some had called the move “disqualifying,” a play off Chuck Todd’s term for Alison Grimes’ refusal to answer one question; by skipping ed board meetings, some have pointed out, Ernst was refusing to answer all questions.
“I don’t think it disqualifies me at all,” Ernst said. “I’m meeting with other editorial boards as I have time. But spending time with Iowans is the most important thing, not a roomful of editors sitting in an office building in Des Moines.”
