Wife of Pastor Held in Iran Speaks Out on CNN, Praises Support from Obama
Naghmen Abedini, the wife of one of the Americans held in Iran, spoke out on CNN this afternoon about her husband’s release.
Pastor Saeed Abedini was held in Iran since 2012 and sentenced in 2013 to eight years in prison for the crime of spreading Christianity through Iran.
Abedini’s wife told Wolf Blitzer it’s a “joyful day” for her family and they can’t wait until her husband calls so they can hear his voice again.
She talked rather effusively about how much President Obama privately assured her that he’s doing everything he can to secure Abedini’s release, and he made sure the State Department was “continually updating us” on the negotiations.
Abedini was released today along with Marine veteran Amir Hekmati, Washington Post reporter Jason Rezaian, and Nosratollah Khosrawi.
