Will Cain Calls Out CNN’s Don Lemon And Guest For Laughing At Gay Joke

CNN’s Don Lemon brought on contributors LZ Granderson and Will Cain to discuss what is quickly becoming the one of the more talked-about jokes to come out of this year’s White House Correspondents Dinner — President Barack Obama‘s joke about dogs and host Jimmy Kimmel‘s jokes about Michele Bachmann‘s husband, Marcus Bachmann.

“And thankfully,” the President had told those gathered, “we’ve all agreed that families are off-limits. Dogs, however, are apparently fair game.” This after he’d poked fun at former VP candidate Sarah Palin’s now-famous “pitbull in lipstick” quip by noting that the real difference between pitbulls and hockey moms is that “pitbulls are delicious.”

“That was good,” said Lemon. “Wasn’t that funny?” Both agreed, with Granderson adding that the President did well to tackle the dog-eating controversy head-on.

Later, Lemon lost it laughing over Kimmel’s joke that ousted Current TV host Keith Olbermann had received “more pink slips than Marcus Bachmann,” poking fun at both the host and the public speculation over Mr. Bachmann’s sexual orientation.

“I’m genuinely curious here. If, as the joke suggests, Marcus Bachmann is gay, but he hasn’t come to grips with himself,” Cain asked the other two, “now I’m asking two guys who have been through this process — honestly, I’m honestly curious — why is it ok to make fun of him, then? Is it just because of his politics or because he’s public figure? I’m really curious. Why is it ok?”

“Stop it, Will,” laughed Granderson, as video played of Michele and Marcus dancing.

“No, no, no, you don’t have to convince me of anything,” said Cain of the dancing video. “I’m just asking why it’s ok.”

Granderson offered an explanation:

You know what, Don and I have been friends for years, but, you know, I wasn’t around Don as a teenager, so I don’t know if he tried to convert gay people or not. But it just seems funny that when you are having flamboyant mannerisms and you’re livelihood is converting, you know, gay men to being straight, it’s just funny. It’s funny, man. I don’t even care what his politics happens to be. It’s just kind of a funny thing when you juxtapose the two images.
