Willie Geist Blasts RNC’s ‘Pathetic’ Support of Trump Attack on Adm. McCraven: ‘The Blind Fealty’
Morning Joe co-host Willie Geist took aim at the Republican National Committee, a body that has devolved into a mouthpiece for Trumpism’s most immature inclinations, after the official GOP Twitter account trashed-talked retired Admiral William McRaven.
Following President Donald Trump’s criticism of McRaven, a former Navy SEAL who led the raid that killed Osama bin Laden, the RNC tweeted that McRaven has “been critical” of Trump and is “hardly a non-political figure.”
“You would think that the Republican Party, after taking its worst beating in the house since Watergate,” Joe Scaroborough said on Tuesday, “would stop following Donald Trump down into the muck and into the mud.”
“But here they are, the official Republican party, slamming a Navy SEAL,” Scarborough continued. “Lying about him, slandering him, calling him a political figure, saying he was on Hillary Clinton’s short list for vice president when he wasn’t, and overlooking the fact that he actually was considered as part of Donald Trump’s administration just a couple of years ago.”
“It’s so pathetic,” Geist said. “The blind fealty. If you don’t want to criticize the Republican president of the united States, okay. But maybe just sit it out, you don’t have to jump in on attacks on a Navy SEAL who led the mission to kill Osama.
“It’s just truly pathetic, is the only word I can come up with,” he added. “There’s so much that’s wrong with what the president said.”
Susan Del Percio, a Republican strategist on the panel, called the tweet “disgraceful” and compared it to the RNC embracing Roy Moore, who while running for Senate in Alabama was accused of child molestation.
