Wilmore: Maybe Black People Need to Fly Gyrocopters Instead of March
On Thursday evening’s The Nightly Show, host Larry Wilmore looked at how the gyrocopter protester landing on the U.S. Capitol lawn got the media talking about campaign finance reform and wondered: Why don’t black people start flying gyrocopters to get heard, too?
After playing a clip of Florida mailman Doug Hughes explaining that his gyrocopter stunt was aimed at getting people talking about money in politics, Wilmore mocked, “Hey, man, just because you landed your stupid gyrocopter on the Capitol lawn, that is not going to make people talk about campaign finance, dumb dumb.”
Oh, but it did. Cue a long string of cable news clips demonstrating a renewed conversation on campaign finance rules.
“Okay, let me see if i understand this,” the Comedy Central host reacted, “a guy crashes his gyrocopter and people pay attention to his issue. And black people, all this time we’ve been marching? Is there no brother that has a gyrocopter out there? Seriously.”
