Wolf Blitzer Asks GOP Rep.: Will Capitol Incident ‘Propel’ Congress ‘Back to Work’ to End Shutdown?
While concluding his interview Thursday afternoon with Rep. Blake Farenthold (R-TX), CNN’s Wolf Blitzer asked whether the shots fired outside the U.S. Capitol building will propel both parties to get “back to work” and come together to end the government shutdown.
“Something like this, which clearly scares everyone up on Capitol Hill,” Blitzer asked, “Do you think it’s going to propel you guys up there — Democrats and Republicans — to say, ‘You know what? Enough is enough. Let’s get back to work and end this shutdown’?”
“I’ve been advocating to end it as soon as possible anyway,” Farenthold replied. “It’s unforutnate that this happened but let’s hope that something good can come out of it.”
Blitzer then pushed further with his own editorializing: “Yeah, let’s hope, indeed. That government shutdown has lasted long enough. Everyone’s got to get back to work. Some of these other political issues, you guys could work out separately.”
