Here we have what may be the most depressing story of all time. Last year, 29-year-old Toni Medrano allegedly rolled over on the couch and asphyxiated her three-week-old son while passed out from drinking a fifth of vodka. Come morning, the boy was dead. And, if that wasn’t enough, Medrano is now dead too, apparently from lighting herself on fire.
The Minnesota woman became famous when Nancy Grace featured her case earlier this summer, giving her the derisive moniker “Vodka Mom” and doing segments asking for Medrano to be charged with murder one while pouring vodka drinks in front of the camera.
Apparently, watching that segment, along with her guilt over her baby’s death, was too much for Medrano. Minneapolis police are saying that, on July 2nd, Medrano covered herself in flammable liquid and lit herself on fire, later dying from the burns.
From the Minneapolis Star-Tribune:
“Medrano apparently lit the fire that killed her[self] while at her mother’s home in the 1200 block of Chicago Av. S. in St. Paul Park, a quiet street of ramblers and full, tall trees. Her mother, Yvonne Hill, declined to comment Monday, citing the advice of her lawyer.
Maria Phillips, Medrano’s younger sister, said Medrano was ‘shaking and couldn’t take a breath’ as she watched Grace’s show. ‘She got depressed and said life wasn’t worth living. She said she couldn’t live with herself.'”
Like I said, this is one of the most depressing stories we’ve ever come across.
