WTF Was MSNBC’s ‘Racial Draft’ All About?
It’s Friday, so MSNBC’s The Cycle figured, why not recycle a 10-year-old sketch from season 2 of Chappelle’s Show? That’s right, today Touré hosted a “racial draft,” in which fellow MSNBC personalities Krystal Ball and and Joy Reid drafted various celebrities into their respective races to clear up any confusion that be lingering out there in the world.
As Touré explained, “once you’re drafted by a certain race, that’s your group.” In Dave Chappelle’s version Tiger Woods officially became a black man. On MSNBC, Ball drafted Derek Jeter and Mariah Carey to the white team, while Reid took a more unusual approach by claiming the Walton and Koch families as black. While Ball said she just wanted to add some “cool people” to the white race, Reid was looking to tackle inequality by making the richest white people in America black.
Following down that road, the draft continued with Halle Berry and Drake becoming white and Bill Gates and Warren Buffett turning black. Just like that, Reid shifted $300 billion from the white community to African-Americans.
Yep, everything written above actually happened on MSNBC Friday afternoon.
