'You Know Better than That': Ex-Cop Confronted on CNN for 'Black Brunch' Tweet

Former NYPD Officer John Cardillo protested this pretty provocative tweet yesterday about the #BlackBrunchNYC protests:

Well, that set off quite the controversy, and Cardillo appeared on CNN tonight, where he explained to Don Lemon exactly why he posted the photo. Cardillo argued his point was exposing “hypocrisy” on the part of people that were outraged by his tweet, but not about looting and rioting in Ferguson.

He said it would be demeaning for anyone to compare the brunch disrupters to heroes of the civil rights movement, and that’s when New York Times columnist Charles Blow went off. He scolded Cardillo for posting an intimidating photo, told him “you know better than that,” and said, “Your very presence here is demeaning.”

They got into a shouting match for a bit, with Cardillo accusing Blow of being “afraid of my response.” He told Blow he’s legitimized “inappropriate behavior” and said that his photograph “hasn’t shot anyone, maimed anyone.”
