A CNN panel got very heated and angry as defense attorney Paul Martin and former NYPD detective Harry Houck shouted at each other about the two police shootings this week.
Martin was outraged that Houck could not “accept that there are racist or racial components” to the shootings of Alton Sterling and Philando Castile. He shouted, “You’re not living on the same planet as we are!” Houck shouted back, “You are making an assumption because it is part of your narrative!”
Houck said there was a perfectly legitimate reason Castile got pulled over––his tail light was broken. CNN’s Erin Burnett said that happens less often to white people, but Houck insisted that’s flatly untrue.
Van Jones and Martin pointed to racial disparities in the justice system, especially in places like New York City, and practically begged him to see reason. Houck cried, “Minorities commit the majority of crimes in New York City!”
It got even more crazy from there.
Jones capped off the segment by scolding Houck for being “so rude and interruptive that you’re actually making my point… no matter how respectful we are, this is the way it goes down.”
