Dubliners burst into spontaneous renditions of Dirty Old Town and Fairytale of New York by The Pogues awaiting the funeral procession of the band’s beloved frontman Shane MacGowan.

The cortege will see MacGowan carried through the streets of Dublin before a final journey home to Nenagh, Co Tipperary, for a funeral mass.

MacGowan, who passed away last week at the age of 65, has left an indelible mark on the music world with his unique blend of punk and folk melodies.

Thousands of fans, friends, and family members lined the streets of the city centre to pay their respects along a route that weaves its way through Pearse Street to conclude at the top of Westland Row.

At Westland Row, awaiting the procession’s arrival, fans burst into song for a uniquely Irish tribute to the songwriter.

Tributes have poured in from across the globe, encapsulating the deep admiration and love for MacGowan, a character and creative who has left an indelible mark on music.
