President Donald Trump will hold a joint press conference with Kuwait’s leader Amir al-Sabah at the White House.
The two are expected to make their remarks at 1:30 EST.
The visit comes at a time of heightened tension on the Arabian peninsula with familiar flash-points like Iran and new ones like the recent naval blockade of Qatar taking front and center.
According to the Kuwait Times, Trump first met the oil monarch in February during his visit to the region. During that time, Trump invited al-Sabah to visit D.C.
In a press release earlier this month, the White House said it looked forward to the visit as part of the “second annual United States-Kuwait Strategic Dialogue”
President Donald J. Trump will welcome Amir Sabah al-Ahmed al-Jaber al-Sabah of Kuwait to the White House for an official working visit on September 7, 2017. Amir al-Sabah is leading a Kuwaiti delegation to the United States for the second annual United States-Kuwait Strategic Dialogue, which will include Cabinet-level meetings on education, trade, investment, homeland security, and military cooperation.
In addition to shoring up a regional ally, Trump’s talks with al-Sabah are expected to cover, oil and gas, as well as infrastructure.
The pair may even discuss New York City’s Hudson Yards, a real estate development in Manhattan — Trump’s old stomping ground — which the kingdom has a financial stake.
