Saturday Night Live took several shots at Morgan Wallen on the week after his frosty turn as the show’s musical guest.

Wallen rushed off the stage right after performed on the program one week ago — rather than milling about and shaking hands with cast members as is the show’s custom during the closing credits. He then posted a story to his Instagram account showing a plane on the tarmac with the caption: “Get me to God’s country.”

In its cold open Saturday, SNL took on that cryptic comment from Wallen by having James Austin Johnson — portraying President Donald Trump — reference it while defending the tariffs imposed on the Heard and McDonald Islands, which are inhabited only by penguins.

“I had them mock up some artwork of McDonald Island — Howard, would you mind bringing that up please?” Trump said, calling for a photo reimagining McDonald Island as a tropical paradise complete with dancing Big Macs. “There we go! I want to go to there! Get me to God’s country, right? Remember that?”

The joke was met with uproarious laughter from the SNL audience. And their reaction was similar later in the show as Weekend Update anchor Colin Jost called out Wallen’s swift exit from the stage.

“Just in the past two days, investors have lost over $6 trillion,” Jost said. “Money is leaving the stock market faster than Morgan Wallen at goodnights.”

Wallen’s controversial history with SNL dates back to October 2020 — when the show pulled the plug on his scheduled appearance when videos surfaced showing him violating SNL’s Covid protocols.
