Controversial comic Kathy Griffin recently claimed former President Donald Trump had a “distinctive smell” when she appeared at a Trump event many years ago — and there is video from the event.
Griffin — currently on her “My Life on the PTSD-List” tour — told Mary Trump in a video exclusive to her The Good In Us newsletter subscribers. that she noticed Trump’s smell when she met him:
KATHY GRIFFIN: The Donald has a distinct smell that doesn’t really get enough press, it’s like body odor with kind of like a scented makeup products. But you can smell the hair products even outdoors.Don’t make that face! I’m just being honest. I know.MARY TRUMP: Well, I don’t know. Maybe somebody needs to make a candle that said yeah, because that’ll fly off the shelves right Christmas right now. Okay.
That story kickstarted a viral trolling campaign with the hashtag #TrumpSmells, designed to get under Trump’s skin. The anti-Trump organization The Lincoln Project put out a #TrumpSmells ad that featured audio of Griffin’s claim. The troll campaign included a great many cruel references to incontinence.
The event in question was featured in a season 10 episode of The Apprentice. Contestants had to arrange a dinner for a golf tournament headlined by Liza Minnelli and Griffin.

All that changed when Griffin posed for the infamous photos that got her exiled to what she now refers to as the PTSD-List, a reference to the threats and abuse she has endured as her career was derailed by the controversy.
