The mother of the person identified as Wednesday’s Minneapolis shooter reportedly worked at the church that was targeted in the attack.

On Wednesday morning, a suspect opened fire on the adjoining church of Annunciation Catholic School. Armed with a rifle, a shotgun, and a handgun, the shooter between 50 and a 100 rounds into the stained glass windows of the church from outside. The shooting killed two children, ages 8 and 10, and left 17 other people injured.

Hours later, the shooter was identified as 23-year-old Robin Westman, formerly Robert. Westman turned the gun on himself following the shooting and was found dead.

According to reporting KARE 11, Westman was connected to the church via his mother, who previously worked there.

“Multiple law enforcement sources have confirmed to KARE 11 that the shooter is a 23-year-old named Robin Westman — formerly went by Robert,” KARE 11 investigative reporter A.J. Lagoe said. “That’s what we’re being told. Grew up in Richfield. And we’ve also learned that his mother had some connection to the school or church and worked there. That may be the connection between the shooter and that location. That’s what law enforcement sources are telling us. Again, we have confirmed that the shooter in this case is named Robin Westman and was a 23-year-old.”
