A recent poll out of New Jersey revealed that President Donald Trump is viewed more favorably than Democratic Gov. Phil Murphy.

According to the Emerson College poll published Thursday, 48% of those surveyed had a favorable view of Trump while 46% had an unfavorable view. The remaining 6% were neutral. Those numbers gave Trump a slight edge over Murphy, who was viewed favorably by 44% and unfavorably by 42%. There were also 12% who were neutral on the governor and 2% who had never even heard of him.

Voters in the poll were split 50-50 whether the state is headed in the right direction.

“Perception of the direction of the state varies by party: 70% of Democrats think the state is headed in the right direction,” Emerson College Polling executive director Spencer Kimball said, “while 64% of Republicans and 68% of independents feel New Jersey is on the wrong track.”

New Jersey voters were also asked about New York City’s controversial congestion pricing, which has introduced a $9 toll for drivers entering

Manhattan’s central business district. According to the Emerson poll, 57% of NJ voters opposed the measure. Murphy himself has also opposed congestion pricing, calling it a “disaster” and urging Trump to intervene.

Trump’s favorable numbers come months after a presidential race that was surprisingly close in the Garden State. Then-Vice President Kamala Harris won the state 52-46 over Trump, but that six-point margin — as noted by NJ.com — is the best showing by a Republican presidential candidate in more than 30 years. In the previous two elections, Trump lost the state by double digits.
