Longtime Democratic strategist James Carville recommended liberals admit they “betrayed” President Donald Trump’s MAGA base and working class voters after acting like “they didn’t exist.”
On Thursday’s episode of the podcast he runs with Al Hunt, Politics War Room, Carville accused Democrats of ignoring working class Americans in the last presidential election and encouraged them to change their rhetoric.
“I have an iota of sympathy for somebody whose life hadn’t turned out right and the brilliant thing about MAGA is it gives you an explanation other than yourself of why your life didn’t turn out the way you wanted it,” he said. “And we should say to these people, we kind of understand what you were trying to say, but you were betrayed. Let’s also face it — Democrats acted like these people didn’t exist.”
The once-advisor to former President Bill Clinton has set his own party in his sights in many of his recent talks, including criticizing former Vice President Kamala Harris’s 2024 campaign and blasting what he calls the “pom pom caucus” of the party, including progressives Rep. Alexandria Ocasio Cortez (D-NY).
Carville argued for a less aggressive approach when trying to communicate with Trump voters turned off by the Democratic Party.
