Stephen A. Smith made the case Monday that President Donald Trump’s historically bad approval rating was more of an indictment on the Democratic Party.
ABC News, The Washington Post and Ipsos published a poll the day before as Trump’s second term hit the 100-day mark. According to the poll, just 39% of the respondents said they approved of the job Trump had done up to that point. By comparison, 55% said they disapproved. Compared to other 100-day approval ratings, Trump’s number was the lowest in the last 80 years.
On The Stephen A. Smith Show, Smith offered a different view on Trump’s poor numbers when he pivoted to criticism of the Democratic Party.
“Here’s what I walk away with more than anything: despite his low approval ratings, he’s still more popular than the Democrats,” Smith said. “So it’s really the ultimate indictment against the Democratic party because, again, despite the noise that he has made and despite unfavorably he’s looked upon, the Democrats still can’t beat him because you still have nobody to beat him. You don’t have a face that resonates nationally. You don’t have somebody who’s dogged in their beliefs who happens to be able to resonate.
