The mother of Cleveland Browns quarterback Shedeur Sanders sounded off on ESPN analyst Rex Ryan for the way he criticized her son recently.
On Monday’s episode of Get Up, Ryan called Sanders an “embarrassment” for a recent clip in which the young QB expressed his belief that he can be a starter in the NFL. Sanders specifically cited the current QB play in the league, implying some of those with starting positions aren’t much better than he is. At the time of the comments, Sanders was third on the Browns’ depth chart behind veteran Joe Flacco and fellow rookie Dillon Gabriel. Flacco has since been benched, making Gabriel the starter.
In an Instagram story post, Pilar Sanders — Shedeur’s mother — slammed Ryan for this blistering critique of the rookie.
“To young Athletes and Football fans… This is what impotent, cancerous, envious energy looks like,
“What and who does he really represent? Its family and peers should be embarrassed to know and let this on their platforms. There’s no room for this type in sports,” she added.
The post, which was reported on by The New York Post, was later deleted.
