Pacers Star Tyrese Haliburton Reveals How Sports Betting Has Begun to Affect Athletes: ‘To Half the World… I’m a Prop’

Indiana Pacers guard Tyrese Haliburton admitted Tuesday that the rising popularity of sports betting has changed the way he’s looked at by fans.

Speaking after practice to James Boyd of The Athletic, Hailburton opened up about the importance of seeing the team’s sports psychologist. According to him, it’s especially important now because of the way fans treat the players.

“I’ve done that for kinda the last couple years,” Haliburton said in reference to see the psychologist. “It’s been good. I mean, even when I’m not [struggling], I think there has to be conversations at other times, too, because it’s obvious that what happens on the court is happens on the court… It’s important, I think, for us as basketball players, as men, to get those things out because not everybody cares to hear how we feel.

“To half the world, I’m just helping them make money on DraftKings or whatever. I’m a prop. That’s what my social

media mostly consists of. I think it’s important for us to have somebody to talk to. I think all that stuff is — it can be funny sometimes when somebody’s like, ‘I lost a thousand dollars.’ I don’t give a fuck… I do think that it’s important for us to just have conversations with people who really value who we are as human beings.”
