Retired NYPD Lieutenant Joe Cardinale on Saturday singled out Democrat and Gov. Tim Walz of Minnesota when talking about rhetoric that inspires violence, after the targeted shooting of Democrats in Walz’s state.
Rep. Melissa Hortman, the former Speaker of the Minnesota House, and her husband, Mark Hortman, were shot and killed early Saturday at their home in Brooklyn Park by a man posing as a police officer, authorities confirmed Saturday morning. State Sen. John Hoffman and his wife, Yvette Hoffman, were also shot and are hospitalized.
The suspect identified by police is a former Walz appointee, according to multiple reports.
In a segment on Fox prior to that identification, Cardinale joined anchor Bryan Llenas and other former law enforcement guests to discuss the situation.
After talking about the manhunt and the technicalities of the investigation, Cardinale singled out Gov. Walz in a remark about political rhetoric, which he said won’t be toned down any time soon.
“I think this politically motivated, these incidents are going to be reoccurring as long as this rhetoric keeps up between politicians,” Cardinale said. “I just can’t see it getting any less right now, especially in a state with Tim Walz.”
LLENAS: Joe, your thoughts right now, ongoing manhunt, what comes first to your mind about just the uncharted territory we’re in and what investigators are doing.CARDINALE: Well right now the manhunt, as you said, is on its way. It’s
a shelter-in-place, everybody should take that very seriously. And I’m sure the tips will be coming in. They’ll have their forces along the lines there of the neighborhood that this person, I’m sure he’s somewhat identified, to a degree, of where his whereabouts could be and where they should be focusing their efforts is, you know, right on that area. So he – I think this politically motivated, these incidents are going to be reoccurring as long as this rhetoric keeps up between politicians. I just can’t see it getting any less right now, especially in a state with Tim Walz.
