There was a spirited moment today on Fox News’ Outnumbered after the panel took note of Jamal Khashoggi‘s reported links to the Muslim Brotherhood amid his suspicious disappearance.
The conversation began with Secretary of State Mike Pompeo‘s recommendation to allow the Turks and the Saudis to investigate the matter, along with the news that Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin will no longer attend the upcoming Future Investment Initiative summit in Riyadh.
As Marie Harf explained why the Saudi Royal Family’s interests are threatened by the outrage over their seeming involvement in Khashoggi’s disappearance, Harris Faulkner took the discussion in a new direction when she noted the columnist was “tied to the Muslim Brotherhood.”
“That’s iffy to say that,” Harf protested. “Throughout his career he was a government spokesperson for the family. He worked for Prince Turki [Al Faisal, Saudi ambassador to the U.S.] when he was in Washington, D.C., and at times had written and worked with some Muslim brother members in Saudi Arabia. But he was always named spokesman or a journalist, and so, I mean, he has been tied up…”
Faulkner argued that she made her comment in an effort to provide the full context of Khashoggi’s connections. Harf fired back by saying, “people are using that to discredit him.”
