Vice President JD Vance acknowledged that housing and groceries are “too expensive,” but blamed the “disastrous [Joe] Biden economy” in an interview with Fox’s Laura Ingraham that aired on Friday’s episode of The Ingraham Angle.
Responding to a question about the potential connections between a struggling economy and surging support for the front-runner of the New York City mayoral race, Democratic socialist Zohran Mamdani, Vance first thanked President Donald Trump.
“First of all, we have to give the president a lot of credit here. He inherited one of the worst inflation crises in American history,” said Vance. “Housing is too expensive. Groceries are too expensive. I would say they are too expensive because we inherited a disastrous Biden economy.”
Notably, though, having noted that young people “feel like the American dream is unaffordable,” Vance went on to say that fellow conservatives “make a mistake in dismissing Mamdani as a socialist, as a communist.”
“Unless we give young people a stake in the future, we can’t dismiss their concerns of socialism. They’re going to choose socialism if given an option between free stuff and a bad life,” he continued. “We have got to do a better job at articulating it, or they’re going to continue to be attracted to people like Mamdani.”
