Sen. Roger Marshall (R-KS) claimed Washington D.C. has become a “war zone” and Congress needs a more direct role in overseeing the “local governance.”
Marshall joined Maria Bartiromo on Fox Business on Tuesday to discuss a flyer posted by Rep. August Pfluger (R-TX) which provides instructions to vote for President Joe Biden to migrants. Pfluger and Marshall are pushing for legislation that would require proof of citizenship to vote. The former claimed the flyer has been passed around at the southern border.
The flyer gives dates of elections and instructions on how to register to vote.
Marshall raised alarms and claimed illegal migrants will “absolutely” be voting in November’s presidential election.
Marshall declared the city a “war zone” and claimed he fears for the safety of his employees going to and from work, citing vandalism, carjackings, and random acts of violence as common occurrences.
“I just want to make sure your listeners understand: Washington DC has become a war zone. I fear for the safety and life of my workers on Capitol Hill walking to and from work,” the senator said.
D.C. police crime data shows that all major crimes have dropped this year. Crimes like homicide and robbery, however, say double digit increases in 2023 over 2022. Marshall wants a more law and order-focused mayor and Congress to pass legislation requiring “proof of citizenship” to vote in elections in D.
“Washington D.C. is a federal district, it’s not a state,” Marshall argued. “So therefore Congress oversees those elections. We need people electing a mayor who is going to keep people safe.
