Karoline Leavitt, the national press secretary for Donald Trump’s 2024 campaign, will serve as the White House press secretary in his second term in office, the president-elect announced Friday night.
In a statement, the Trump transition team announced Leavitt, 27, had been chosen over other candidates who were rumored to have been in the mix for the job.
“Today, the 45th and 47th President of the United States Donald J. Trump announced that Karoline Leavitt will serve as White House Press Secretary,” Trump’s transition team said. “Karoline was the Trump Campaign National Press Secretary and previously served in the Trump White House as Assistant Press Secretary.”
Trump praised Leavitt as a “highly effective communicator” in a separate statement:
Karoline Leavitt did a phenomenal job as the National Press Secretary on my Historic Campaign, and I am pleased to announce she will serve as White House Press Secretary. Karoline is smart, tough, and has proven to be a highly effective communicator. I have the utmost confidence she will excel at the podium,
and help deliver our message to the American People as we Make America Great Again.”
Other candidates floated for the job included Trump’s personal attorney Alina Habba and CNN contributor Scott Jennings.
Sean Spicer, Sarah Sanders, Kayleigh McEnany, and Stephanie Grisham all served as press secretary during Trump’s first term.
