A motorcade gathered at the White House Monday morning for what was expected to be a routine trip to President Donald Trump’s golf club in Sterling, Virginia.

However, after Secret Service agents and members of the press spent an hour waiting in the assembled vans, the president appeared to abruptly change his plans.

Pool reporters spotted Trump emerging from the Executive Mansion wearing a red polo and a white Make America Great Again Hat. He spoke briefly to staff on the scene for a few minutes before heading back inside.

Not long after, the press were told to exit the vans and given the OK to head home for the day.

The White House provided an explanation CNN’s Kaitlin Collins:

One member of the press pool was ready to chalk it up to D.C.’s humid weather. Some Twitter users apparently had different theories.

Trump spent both Saturday and Sunday at the Trump National Golf Club.

While the White House did confirm that the club was Monday’s ultimate destination, Secret Service agents were seen wearing khakis and a Virginia State

police car was reportedly at the head of the motorcade, two tell-tale signs that a golf trip was likely in the works.

If the president’s day was derailed by an urgent matter, it didn’t fully prevent him from his usual routine.

After he went inside, Trump continued his Labor Day-themed tweets with a swipe at AFL-CIO president Richard Trumka.
