Kim Kardashian earned pushback from President Donald Trump’s administration after condemning current ICE raids as “inhumane.”
“When we’re told that ICE exists to keep our country safe and remove violent criminals — great,” Kardashian wrote on Instagram on Tuesday. “But when we witness innocent, hardworking people being ripped from their families in inhumane ways, we have to speak up. We have to do what’s right.”
Kardashian’s post comes amidst protests in Los Angeles against ongoing ICE raids and deportations. President Trump deployed the National Guard and Marines to Los Angeles in response to the growing protests.
Kardashian pushed for a “better way” to tackle illegal immigration.
“No matter where you fall politically, it’s clear that our communities thrive because of the contributions of immigrants,” she wrote. “We can’t turn a blind eye when fear and injustice keep people from living their lives freely and safely. There HAS to be a BETTER way.”
Tricia McLaughlin, the assistant secretary for Homeland Security, responded to
“[Kim Kardashian], which one of these convicted child molesters, murderers, drug traffickers and rapists would you like to stay in the county?” she wrote on X. “These are just a few of the convicted illegal criminals who have been picked up in the last 72 hours.”
During Trump’s first administration, Kardashian was something of an ally, working closely with the administration on criminal justice reform. She famously advocated directly with Trump to commute the life sentence of Alice Marie Johnson, convicted of a non-violent drug offense in 1996. She was released in 2018 after serving 21 years of her life sentence.
