So it was no surprise that Chick-fil-A sales skyrocketed after National Chick-fil-A Appreciation Day. Though they didn’t release the actual numbers, “we can confirm reports that it was a record-setting day,” said Steve Robinson, Chick-fil-A’s executive vice president of marketing, to CNN.
- In response, GLAAD and gay rights supporters are turning out in droves to Chick-fil-A today to stage a “National Kiss-In.” “Basically what you’re going to get is a bunch of pretty normal,average, everyday people that just happen to be gay or lesbian give each other a kiss or a hug, hold each other’s hand, and really show them that we stand up for what we believe,” organizer Marci Alt of Decatur, GA told ABC.
- Jon Stewart’s first segment on last night’s Daily Show focused on the controversy, and his comments are making the rounds on the internets right now, particularly his call for everyone to realize that “if the massive culture war Armageddon we’ve been dreading for years takes the form of one-day record chicken sandwich sales, maybe everybody walks away from this a winner.”
- And while we can understand the sentiment behind Glenn Beck’s attempt to cash in on the Chick-fil-A controversy by selling these anti-Obama t-shirts with a chicken on them…we’re also going to hit our heads repeatedly against a wall for his dorky attempt to use Batman-esque imagery and quotes from The Dark Knight Rises to force some sort of badassery. If Bane does not equal Bain Capital, distressed graphics does not equal Christopher Nolan coolness. Come on, now.
