Republican Sen. Marco Rubio was confronted by far-left activists as he was walking in a hallway and, with finger-pointing emphasis, refused to agree that Israel should commit to a ceasefire in Gaza.
Code Pink activists led by the radical group’s founder Medea Benjamin ambushed Rubio on the subject of Israel and Hamas. The activist outfit has a long history of pro-Palestinian activism and specifically engagement with Hamas, and just hours after the October 7 terror attack in which civilians were murdered and taken hostage, Benjamin sent tweets blaming Israel and pointedly did not condemn any of the violence and death against Israeli and international civilians.
“Senator Rubio will you call for a ceasefire in Gaza?” Benjamin asked in the ambush interview format that Code Pink frequently utilizes.
“No I will not,” said Rubio. He began to elaborate, saying “On the contrary,” but as Benjamin continued to speak the Senator got right up to the Code Pink camera and asked, “Are you filming this? I want you guys to get this.”
“I want Israel to destroy every element of Hamas they can get their hands on,” he said, pointing his finger emphatically at the camera. “These people are vicious animals who did horrifying crimes, and I hope you guys post that, because that’s my position.”
“And what about the civilians that are being killed every day,” asked Benjamin as Rubio
“I blame Hamas for that,” said Rubio quickly turning back to the activists. “Hamas should stop hiding behind civilians, putting civilians in the way. Hamas knew that this was going to lead to this. So Hamas must stop building their military installations underneath hospitals, underneath civilian –”
“So you don’t care that 15,000 have died, you don’t care about the babies that are being killed every day,” said Benjamin, an avid supporter of Democrat Rep. Rashida Tlaib.
“Absolutely I care,” Rubio said. “I care, I think it’s horrifying, I think it’s terrible, and I think Hamas is a hundred percent to blame. That’s what I think.”
“Make sure you post that please,” he said before stepping away.
